Why do Megan, Sal, and Ben react the way they do to the "The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls" poem?
At the beginning of Chapter 30, Sal says, “In spite of all her cholesterol madness and her annoying comments, there was something about
Phoebe that was like a magnet. I was drawn to her. I was pretty sure that underneath all
that odd behavior was someone who was
frightened. And, in a strange way, she was like another version of me-she acted out the
way I sometimes felt."
Sal has become close to Phoebe because she sees herself in Phoebe.
Think about your closest friends. How did you meet one another? Do you think that you are a lot alike? Do you see yourselves in one
another? Explain and give examples to support your response.
